PROGRAMS & SERVICES

Our P&S Team is made up of three staff team members who facilitate and manage programs for Ts'amiks living in the interior of Vancouver and Vancouver Island. Our focus is to provide services for all Nisga'a members and create programs for youth, children and Elders. 


Our team also overlooks Nisga'a Ts'amiks Vancouver Society events, which include; fish distribution, Hoobiyee and annual holiday celebrations throughout the year. If you would like to receive updates on our programs and events please visit here.


CURRENT PROGRAMS & SERVICES


“What the L!” – Learner’s Licensing Workshop

This two-session workshop is being offered in partnership with Needs of the Community (NOC) Society. “What the L!” provides participants the essential knowledge required to successfully pass the Knowledge test. 


Workshop Outline:

  1. Navigates through the Driver's Guide booklet step by step 
  2. Highlights key points in each section
  3. Identifies useful clues in preparation for the exam 
  4. Offers opportunities for participants to ask questions and learn through group discussions
     

Applicants MUST be able to fulfill all of NOCs following requirements to participate: 

  1. Be able to attend both days/sessions of the workshop. 
  2. Must have 2 pieces of valid Government ID- one Primary and one Secondary. 
  3. No outstanding fines with ICBC or ability to pay the fines prior to the Knowledge test. 
  4. Any participants under the age of 19 years old must have a parent/ guardian present when attempting the knowledge test or be able to complete the parent-guardian form. 


General Workshop 

  • Ages: 31 and up 
  • Must be registered NTVS members
  • Dates: March 9 – 10, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm
  • Location: NTVS Gathering Space
  • Knowledge Test Dates: March 16 – 17, 2023

Please note that the dates and times have been determined by availability of NOC and in consideration with our Hoobiyee event. Applicants must be 100% committed to the dates of the workshop, as well as the time scheduled for the knowledge test.

Counselling Services

We have partnered with Makwag Consulting to offer free counselling for Ts'amiks members from November 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023 via Zoom or phone. They have male and female Counsellors available to assist you seven days a week from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm. 


Topics can include:

  • Effective Strategies for Coping
  • Covid-19
  • Stress, anxiety and depression

Health & Wellness

Nisga’a citizens whose ordinary residence is within the Nisga’a Ts’amiks Vancouver Society treaty boundary is eligible for a subsidy up to $75.00 to help our Nisga’a Ts’amiks citizens engage in health and wellness activities. This program operates on a reimbursement basis, which means that citizens are required to provide receipt of payment with the application for the grant. 


Acceptable Expenses:   

  • Sport or recreational enrolment fees  
  • Sport or recreational gear: runners, cleats, sport uniform etc.  
  • Winter wear (applicable for Elders aged 55+ and children 5 and under only.)  
  • Spiritual, physical, mental wellness fees not covered under non-insured benefits of the Nisga'a Nation  


Expenses not applicable:  

  • Wellness fees covered under non-insured benefits: massage or physiotherapy  
  • Vitamins or supplements (may be covered under non-insured benefits)  
  • Prescriptions  
  • Active wear clothing and accessories (Leggings, socks, shorts, sports bra, sweatbands)   ​
